What is it?
Digital UK is the independent, non-profit organization, leading the process of TV switchover in the UK. We provide impartial information on what people need to do to prepare for the switch, and when they need to do it. The company was set up by public broadcasters at the request of the Government
What is Freeview?
Freeview is the new, free digital service providing up to 30 free TV channels, over 20 digital radio stations plus a new whole world of interactive services. It's broadcast from transmitters and received via a rooftop aerial. It works like traditional TV but because the signals are different you need a box to convert them (or a new Digi TV with all the technology already built-in). This means more channels can be transmitted with extra features such as interactivity and widescreen pictures.
What is Freesat?
Freesat is a High Definition satellite TV service from the BBC and ITV, launched in May 2008. To watch you'll need a Freesat receiver, a satellite dish and ideally an HD-ready TV. It's basically the satellite equivalent of the digital terrestrial TV service Freeview, once you've paid for the box, dish and installation there are no more ongoing monthly subscription costs.
